Launch Vehicle Cover

As orbital launches surge to meet escalating data demands and the global launch fleet diversifies with new vehicles and payloads, the need for robust Launch Vehicle Flight Only (LVFO) insurance intensifies. Launch failures, unfortunately remain a persistent threat, capable of delivering devastating financial impacts to startups and established operators alike.

Aesir Space provides crucial LVFO coverage, safeguarding satellites against physical loss or damage occurring from the launch vehicle’s intentional ignition through to successful spacecraft separation.

Our sophisticated, data-driven underwriting approach means each LVFO policy is meticulously structured, leveraging high-resolution industry data and tailored to the unique risk profile of your specific launch vehicle and satellite. This precision is reinforced by risk assessments grounded in the latest global launch failure statistics, ensuring relevant and accurately priced coverage.

Aesir Space offers this vital protection either as a standalone LVFO policy or seamlessly integrated within a comprehensive Combined Flight (CF) program that includes subsequent In-Orbit insurance.

In-orbit Satellite Cover

Protecting Your Operational Assets

Once in orbit, satellites face persistent threats from technical malfunctions, operational errors, and the harsh space environment. Aesir Space’s In-Orbit (IO) insurance safeguards against the loss or degradation of your satellite’s performance during its operational life. Coverage addresses diverse scenarios such as on-board equipment failure, critical fuel depletion, damage resulting from operational error, or collisions with space debris and other objects. Each policy is informed by our deep technical insight into specific satellite applications and their associated risks.

Typically, In-Orbit cover commences after successful separation from the launch vehicle and extends until the satellite’s end-of-nominal-life. Where sufficient operational data exists, we can also structure policies for spacecraft missions extending beyond their original design lifetime. This essential protection is a key component of our comprehensive CF programs and is also available as standalone annual coverage.

For satellites operating close to or beyond nominal design life, we have developed a specific questionnaire which will help us assessing the relevant risk profile.

Combined Flight

Seamless End-to-End Mission Coverage

Aesir Space’s Combined Flight (CF) insurance provides seamless, end-to-end protection for your satellite, from launch through its crucial first year in orbit. This integrated approach simplifies initial mission coverage, with flexible options for subsequent annual In-Orbit renewals. Our CF solutions continually evolve with the dynamic space market, adapting to new manufacturers, innovative smallsat technologies, novel payloads, and agile launch vehicles, ensuring tailored protection for these pioneering applications.

Pre-Launch and Assembly, Integration & Test

Cradle to launch coverage.

Space missions do not begin with a launch, rather the launch is a culmination of many years of hard work and preparation. During that period, many traditional property policies will not provide cover for typical assembly risks, during the pre-launch activities or during the transits of the satellite, launch vehicle or their subsystems.

Aesir space works with specialist carriers who are able to provide these covers, ensuring that your project is protected against mishaps which cause damage to and/or delay the launch.

Alternative Cover

The following is a list of some of the more unusual covers we have provided over the years; please let us know if you have any requirements which do not fall into any existing categories but which would enable your business.

  • Launch delay
Providing cover for financial consequences of a delayed launch
  • Launch site damages
Providig cover for propery damage to a launch site in case of a failed launch
  • Exclusion buyback after partial satellite failures
Where sufficient information is available to assess a risk, we can provide cover which other insurers may want to exclude from your policy
  • Equipment deembarkation
Covering the cost of disembarking an equipment from a satellite late in the integration process.
  • Launcher destacking
Covering the cost of unstacking a launcher if it needs to be rolled back from the pad and destacked
  • Engine testing
Covering the damage caused to the engine and/or surrounding property during the performance of test firing(s)
